The Provost of  Umar Ibn Ibrahim El Kanemi College of Education, Science and Technology Bama, Hajiya Yagana Kyari has appealed to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State as a matter of importance to come to the rescue of the college by reinstating  cases of staff whose salary have been withheld since 2016 during the biometric  data system exercise to ease their hardships.

Yagana also enjoined the governor to settle outstanding allowances of visiting lecturers to the college, which has been stagnated since 2013  due to the Boko Haram insurgency, urging the state government to reintroduce the degree  programme for the  youth of the area who are incapacitated financially to go to other places to acquire knowledge in the overall interest of the people and community.

The provost who made the appeal when the governor visited the college on Wednesday evening on assessment visit, also requested for the recruitment additional academic staff to meet up with the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) stipulated courses in the college as the college requires 192 academic staff and now the college has 92 academic staff on ground.

She noted further that the college also needs 100 non academic staff comprising of security, technicians and administrative staff while a total 729 students have been enrolled this year,   commending the governor for his interventions in the college in resuscitating the college .

Hajiya Kyari also  solicited for the support and cooperation of parents and guardians in  shouldering the responsibility of handling their school fees and JAMB, where 205 candidates have been scouted while appreciating the governor for seeing to the college’s  academic  success.

Responding, Governor Zulum commended the provost for her efforts in resuscitation of the college and assured that the state government will do  its possible best to support the college and directed the provost to forward a comprehensive report on the college to his office immediately for necessary action.
