Ayade calls for increase military presence in C/River

Worried by the increasing insecurity in the country, as well as the need to reassure would be investors, the Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade has appealed for heavy military presence since it is a border state with neighboring African countries.
He made the appeal when the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.
Ayade who was represented by his deputy, Prof Ivara Esu, commended Buratai’s sterling leadership qualities.
He said that army’s proactive intervention had helped to checkmate the activities of militants in the state in recent times.
He expressed the state’s readiness to partner the army towards ensuring the success of her ongoing training in the Niger Delta, tagged “Operation Crocodile Smile”.
He declared “in all my life, I have never seen a chief of army staff that has always been right in the war front; motivating his officers and men at all times”.
According to him “we have no choice as a government than to give you all the cooperation you need in this your new task”.
In our state, “we need heavy presence of the military because we need to sustain the peace to enable us carry on with the job we are doing here, he added”.
In his remark, Buratai said he was in the state to formally flag off the “Exercise Crocodile Smile” currently ongoing within Niger Delta region.
He said the training exercise became necessary in order to ensure the mental and physical fitness of his men in the state.
