Zamfara State Government has called on the Security agencies to be more proactive in their duty to curb the menace of armed banditry and other forms of criminality in the state.
Zamfara State Deputy Governor Malam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad gave the charge when he received the Inspector General of Police Mr Ibrahim Kpotum Idris to who was on a condolence visit over the recent killings of 33 people by gunmen at Birane Village area of Zurmi local government of the State.
Wakkala said Zamfara State Government is seriously worried by the high level of insecurity which is being typified by wanton killings of innocent people especially in the rural areas of the state.
He said the recent waves of attacks could no longer be tolerated therefore security agencies especially the police must find a lasting solution to the unfortunate incidence that is befallen Zamfara State and some part of the country.
The Deputy Governor added that since the inception of this administration, it has never for once abdicated it’s responsibility of safeguarding lives and property of the citizens.
“There is need to revisit the report of the National Peace and Security Committee set up by office of the Inspector General of police in 2014 where different submission were made by the Security Stake holders across the country. I believe if the recommendations are followed, there is possibility of ending this ugly menace,” he said.
Wakkala reiterated the State government’s commitment to continue to support the police and other security agencies in the bid to end the menace of insecurity in the State.
Earlier, the IGP said the Police is working assiduously to bring the perpetrators to book.
He said three new additional Anti Banditry Units will also be deployed to the state to work in hostile areas of the state.
Idris added that a Special Committee will be set up by the Police to investigate the Birane killings.
The IGP had earlier paid condolence to the people and Emir of Zurmi in his palace.
It will be recalled that governor Abdul’Aziz Yari Abubakar had accused the security agencies of complicity in the Zamfara killings, as his administration had given the security agencies alert of the impending attack 24 hours before the Birane attack.
