The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi has alleged that the All Progressives Congress-led government in the state has since its inception last May embarked on and resorted to brutal and barbaric act of unleashing terror on its members.
“We, the entire members of the PDP in Bauchi state wish to use this medium to, in unequivocal terms, condemn the recent and previous attacks on our members, state party Secretary, Barr. Mukhtar Usman told a press conference in Bauchi.
He expressed the belief that the APC-led Government in Bauchi is now hell bent to forcibly silent opposition members through state-sponsored attacks, saying the PDP cannot be intimidated by any form of threat.
“We shall continue to discharge our civic responsibility of telling the truth to power and educating the good people of Bauchi state on how best they should be governed”, the Bauchi PDP Chief Scribe told the media.
Usman, who lamented that some PDP members have been attacked by state agents in recent times, citing examples with himself and Nasiru Ibrahim Darazo who have been attacked at various time in the state.
He stated that Darazo is currently at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment after the attack on him.
According to the opposition chieftain, Darazo dragged the state government to court to challenge the legality and validity of a N4 billion loan secured by the administration of Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar with a purported resolution of the state House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, in a swift reaction to the allegation, the Senior Special Adviser (Media) to Governor Abubakar, Sabo Muhammad, denied the allegation, saying that it was not true.
He stated that the APC government led by Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar is a law-abiding government that respects the lives and property of the citizens of the state.
According to the governor’s aide, the APC is not interested in whatever was happening in PDP, adding that the governor is not aware of the incidents Mukhtar talked about.
Muhammed submitted that the PDP members are confused following the trauma they suffered following their rejection by the people of the state through the ballots in the last general election.
“If there were any attacks by APC members they (PDP members) would have reported it to the Police or SSS or take it to the right channel,” he declared.
