Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is now ready to fashion out the much needed policy that will bail Nigeria out of the present economic recession for the Federal Government.
This was disclosed by the University of Ibadan ASUU Chapter Chairman, Dr Deji Omole during a chat with journalists in Ibadan at the weekend on the coming public lecture and Distinguished Service Award to late and living ASUU members.
Dr Omole lamented that there was no basis for the country to be in recession by now if properly governed by the ruling class that actually plunged Nigeria into the present economic recession.
“If Nigeria had been properly governed with the interest of the majority at heart, Nigeria would have been greater. Nigeria got into recession because of the self-centerdness of the leadership at all levels of government who mismanaged all natural and human capital resources which abound in the country and failed to save for the future of the country,” he said.
Dr Omole added “as academics we need to organise Nigerians to discuss and formulate advisory policy suggestions for federal government”.
“The union is bringing egg heads together to discuss Nigeria and propose a new policy that can take us out of recession”
Speaking further, he said the lecture entitled “Good Governance: A Surgical Strike against Economic Recession” is to be delivered by Dr Biodun Adedipe on Wednesday 2, 2016 at the Trenchard Hall University of Ibadan.
The ASUU Chairman listed those to be honoured as late reknown economist, Professor Bade Onimode, Professor Bayo Odebiyi, ‎Professor Alex Gboyega, and Dr Sola Olukunle while the discussants are Professor Kassey Garba, Professor Olawale Ogunkola, Professor Bayo Okunade and Mr Yemi Fajingbesi.
