The Academic Staff Union of Universities  (ASUU), Federal University Lokoja (FUL) branch has demanded the sack of the Ministers of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, Labour and Productivity, Dr Chris Ngige and his state counterpart, Festus Keyamo for constituting clog in their wheel of progress.

The Federal University Lokoja chapter of the union stated this while staging a solidarity protest round the Adankolo College of Health Sciences campus of the institution  on Tuesday.

This is coming as the union had declared Tuesday a lecture free day in compliance with the directive from the National body of the union.

The branch union rose from an emergency meeting of the  congress before embarking on a peaceful demonstration, carrying placards with various inscriptions and marched through the campus gate to the environs.

The inscriptions read in parts; “Say no to casualisation of lecturers, ”Ngige must go, Okija Shrine awaits you,” “Pay our 8 months salaries,” “stop playing politics with our education”, “we are not casual workers”.

The Chairman of FUL branch of ASUU, Dr. Joshua Silas who addressed journalists after the protest, said the  Federal Government, represented by the three ministers has revealed clearly that they were out to destroy public universities.

“We are calling on Mr. President to remove the ministers before they completely destroy our educational system. They want to turn university lecturers to casual workers. This government wants to destroy public Institutions,” he bemoaned

Answering a question, Dr Silas said  that, the decision to embark on strike is for the National Executive Council of ASUU to decide, adding that what they were doing is to sensitise the public to know how the trio Ngige, Keyamo and Adamu are destroying the educational system.

According to him, “We also want to tell the public that we should not be blamed when we decide on the next line of action.  This government wants to destroy education, they want to destroy public Institutions” he added.
