The National Association of Auctioneers (NAA) has alleged that the nations economy which according to it is in bad state, is being sabotaged by the Federal and State Government officials.

According to the Association, Federal and State Government officials sabotage the  nation’s economy by  using  their relatives and friends to auction public properties.

The association protested this practice of using non auctioneers to sell public properties, arguing that the practice has denied both federal and state government of reasonable revenue needed to boost nation’s economy.

Rising from their annual conference in Owerri, the auctioneers alleged that government officials use their relatives and cronies to sell government properties at ridiculously low prices to fraudulently acquire such properties thereby denying government of revenue, since such non auctioneers made no monetary remittances to government.

The association therefore called on both the federal and state governments to check the inimical practice and use registered auctioneers to dispose public property to improve revenue generation for government.

They assured the federal government and other agencies of government of its readiness to support policies aimed at reviving the national economy.

National President of the Association Alhaji Aliyu Kiliya while speaking at the annual general meeting in Owerri said the association would remain a watch dog over the sales of public properties in Nigeria and sought a new attitude from government at all tiers in the disposal of public properties.

“Nigeria Association of Auctioneers is a professional body recognized by all tiers of government. It serves as a watch dog of the government that ensures the disposal of public properties is done in line with laid down procedures.” he said.

The association also launched its website and called on members to make use of the website to achieve connectivity in the digital age.

Alhaji Kiliya commended members for attending the AGM en masse and disclosed that Owerri was chosen because of the solid support of the South East members to the association.

The secretary of NAA, Engr. Isibor Abhulimen who spoke in an interview appealed to all tiers of government and their agencies to ensure due process in auctioning public property, by engaging registered auctioneers
