Asoju- Oba tennis tourney serves off November 30

The 47th edition of the annual Asoju-Oba Molade Okoye Thomas table tennis championship will serve off on Monday, November 30 at the Sir Molade Okoya- Thomas Sports Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Disclosing this to the media during a press conference to herald the tournament, son of the late sponsor, Ayodeji Okoya- Thomas announced that the family in keeping with the request of the sponsor before his death, decided to continue sponsoring the championship which has now been changed to Asoju-Oba Molade Okoya Thomas table tennis championship and will be rounded up on December 4.
According to him, in keeping with the tradition of the championship, a total of 22 titles will be at stake at the competition which will be in three categories; Cadet, Intermediate and Senior categories even as he announced that there will be women and men’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles while Para- table tennis will also be competing for the third time this year while there will also be administrators singles event, Coaches singles, and Sports Writers singles events amongst others.
He noted that in addition to the two giant trophies to be won in this year’s championship, the family is introducing two miniature trophies which will be kept by the winners of both male and female single events.
In his remarks at the event, Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Sports/ Chairman Lagos State Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu expressed happiness that the children of the late Okoya- Thomas have not allowed the oldest table tennis competition in the country die with their father and pledged support of the Lagos State Government to the successful conclusion of the event.
