The People affected during the clashed between the Nigerian Army and Shi’ite Islamic sect have been called upon to shield their sword by restraining from taking any action capable of further aggravating the situation.
The called was made by a Non Governmental Organization, Community Peace Partnerships (CPPs), urging both parties to use the opportunity of the Committee of Inquiry set up by the Kaduna State Government for sober reflections as well, promoting a peaceful coexistence in Zaria, the state and the country at large.
The group while describing the ugly incident that occurred on the 12th and 14 December, 2015 between the Shiite and the Army in Zaria as unfortunate, said it could have been averted if there was restraint and tolerance by the two parties involved.
A statement jointly signed by the CPPs Chairman and the Secretary Alhaji Waziri Lawal Aliyu and Vincent D. Jatau respectively, appealed to sympathizers of both the Military and Shi’ite group as well as the general public to cooperate with the Commission of Inquiry by providing them with useful information, suggestion and recommendations that will bring about a successful exercise.
It is noted that in as much as every human being has right to life and freedom of religion, both party has to respect the sanctity of other person dignity irrespective of his or her status, beliefs or geographical location.
The NGO in the statement while commending the Kaduna State Government for its effort in setting up the committee, prayed that it would not be another exercise in futility of usual routine of collating document and suggestions without positive outcome.
The statement added that the CPPs which is being supported by Development and Peace Initiative (DPI) Kaduna to implement a three year programme aimed at supporting efforts of key stakeholders to prevent, reduce and manage conflict in Nigeria is committed to supporting and enthroning peace in their various communities as well as the country at large.
