Appeal Court affirms El-rufai’s election

The Court of Appeal in Kaduna has affirmed the Judgment of Kaduna State election tribunal by upholding the election of Governor Nasir Ahmad El-rufai as the duly elected governor in the state.
The presiding judge, Justice I. M. Saulawa while passing judgment on the appeal by filed by APGA , said the case lack merit and thereby struck it out.
The Court of Appeal had during its sitting received all relevant documents filed by all parties involved in the case.
Mr. Polycarp Danladi Gankon had through his legal counsel, Barrister Olumuyiwa Olowokure, petitioned governor El-Rufai, APC and INEC as first, second and third respondents respectively.
Mr. Gankon said that the first respondent, El-Rufai was not duly elected in accordance with the provisions of the electoral act.
He petitioned that the election of the first respondent was void by reason of non-compliance with the provisions of the electoral act.
He also prayed that an order directing the 3rd respondent to conduct a fresh governorship election in Kaduna State in compliance with the provisions of the electoral act.
Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. Ipalibo Harry Banigo has advised residents of the state against storing of inflammable products at home and business premises especially during the harmattan season.
In a statement by her Press Secretary Paul Damgbor, Dr. Banigo said the warning became necessary to avert possible conflagration arising from hoarding of fuel and the activities of black marketers.
Dr. Banigo frowns at the indiscriminate use of inflammables and fireworks by youths in the State.
The Deputy Governor described harmattan as a catalyst for inflammable substances which are capable of wreaking havoc at residential areas and advised parents to educate their wards and children on the peril of harbouring explosives and inflammable substances.
She urged the Residents in the State to be safety conscious and enjoined both private and the State Fire Service Authorities to be alert to emergency calls during the dry season.
Dr. Banigo reminds the people that the ban on fire arms during and after the Christmas season in the state is still in force and enjoined the public to feel free to use the emergency numbers of the Fire Service Agencies in the case of any emergency.
In a related development, the Deputy Governor said the desire by the State Government to collect toll on the newly constructed Woji- Akpajo road in Port Harcourt is to ensure that proceeds from the Toll Gate is used to construct and maintain more roads in the State.
Dr. Banigo who spoke through a statement issued by her Press Secretary, Paul Damgbor, said the decision to collect Tollgate is a welcome development and an avenue to boost the internally generated revenue profile of the State.
The Deputy Governor said Governor Wike’s passion for development is unquantifiable which has made him continue the massive construction of roads in the State despite the financial constraints.
Dr. Banigo noted that it takes a dogged and passionate leader to complete almost all the bad roads left behind by the past administration, adding that January 2016 would witness more road construction in rural areas of the State.
She called on Rivers people to give full support to the Nyesom Wike-led administration to spur him to do more while commending him for his visionary initiatives.
