The federal government has been called upon to set up an inquiry to investigate and ascertain alleged indictment by Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, (RNDA) that some top notchers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were sponsors of the activities of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA).
The RNDA, a break away NDA had recently alleged that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Senate Minority Leader, Chief Godswill Akpabio among others top notch  were bankrolling the activities of the NDA which had been involved in oil pipeline vandalism within the past few months.
In a statement by its Zonal Publicity Secretary, Martins Ahweyevu Mukoro and made available to newsmen, the group said “the federal government should investigate the allegations made by the RNDA in keeping with its zero posture on insecurity and if found to be true, bring the indicted persons to justice.
According to the statement “as they say, there is an element of truth in every rumor, such weighty allegations must not be swept under the carpet or dismissed as the figment of an imagination of those making those rumours.”
It went on to state that, “taking such a decisive action  as recommended above is one sure way to deal with the recurrence of such criminality in the country”.
The Zonal spokesman said “the latest revelations by the RNDA only confirms the party’s initial suspicion that the Avengers were a militant wing of the PDP and described the development as dubious, unpatriotic and criminal and recalled that both the body language and comments credited to the South South APC governors during their meeting with the Vice President months ago expressed the tendency of the PDP top notchers to sponsor the NDA.
According to Mukoro, the advice given by the governors in that meeting with the Vice  President which warned the federal government to thread softly in its anti corruption fight as a precondition for ending the activities of the NDA “was in itself pregnant with obnoxious implications which of course has tilted in the direction we have seen today”.
He described the activities of the NDA as tended towards distracting the forward moving APC government from fixing the missing link in governance and condemned the sponsorship of the group’s activities as alleged.
The statement further said “the development runs foul of opposition politics which should best thrive on logical and ideological engagement of the party in power and not on mindless destruction and criminality as that perpetrated by the militant NDA”.
