Shira and Giade Local Government Councils in Bauchi State have bitterly complained about the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) using financial resources to muscles the electorates in the area ahead of the forth-coming Local Government elections and 2019 general elections.
Two council chairmen who put the complaints before the Democratic Enlightenment Initiative (DEI), a non-governmental organization currently on enlightenment campaign across the twenty Local Government Areas of the state, said the opposition party members are now using stolen money to coerce the electorates ahead of the forth-coming elections.
The Chairmen, Ahmed Abdulhamid and Umar Adamu Zabi respectively told DEI that dragnets of the opposition party have been giving their councils sleepless nights in their clandestine moves to regain power in the forth-coming councils and 2019 general elections.
The Shira Local Government chairman, represented by his vice Adamu Abubakar, said however that they have since embarked on counter enlightenment drive in ensuring that the opposition party did not have a breathing space in the Local Government Areas where their countenance is being assimilated by the electorates.
“I, on two to three occasions was called by the opposition members where I was assured of large sums of money to soft-pedal on the anti PDP campaigns and if possible pitch tent with the party for lucrative elective position comes 2019 which I consistently and vehemently reject”, he said.
Alhaji Adamu Abubakar recalled that the Shira Local Government Secretariat which before their assumption to office deserted by some workers as a result of its partial blown-off by Boko Haram insurgents in 2014 is now lively with all workers in full charge of administrative responsibilities.
The Giade council chairman, Umar Adamu Zabi on his part said that negative activities of the opposition party against his council will not deter him from the chartered course of salvaging the down-trodden from the pangs of want, poverty and ignorance.
Zabi, who also spoke at length about the antics of the opposition party in the area, described the awareness crusade embarked upon by the Democratic Enlightenment Initiative as timely, saying the organization’s philosophy is in tandem with the APC manifestoes.
