Amosun assents to bill creating 37 LCDAS

In a bid to bring governance closer to the grassroots, the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has signed into law the bill creating 37 new Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State.
While signing the bill into law in his office in Abeokuta, the governor said the creation of the LCDAs marks a new dawn as it would bring development closer to the people.
“It’s a new dawn for the people of Ogun State as these newly created Local Council Development Areas will bring development to the State”, Amosun disclosed.
Amosun further revealed that the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission would soon conduct election into all the Local Council Development Areas saying “in the mean time, caretaker Chairmen would be appointed to take charge of the LCDAs so as not to give room for any vacuum in governance”.

“We have a standard in Ogun State. We will follow due process in conducting the Local Government elections”, Amosun assured.
Speaking shortly after, the Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Suraju  Adekunbi said it was a right step in the right direction towards development .
According to him, the grassroots would benefit a lot from the newly created LCDAs.
Adekunbi assured that due process was followed in the creation of the LCDAs as referendum had been conducted in the affected areas while public hearings were also held before arriving at the final stage.

The creation of the new 37 LCDAs brings the number of Local Councils in the State to 57.
