Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura of Nasarawa State has reiterated the commitment of the Nasarawa State Government towards providing conducive atmosphere for learning as well as safety of children in schools in the state.
Gov. Almakura disclosed this during a visit to Government Secondary School Nyanya Gbagyi in Karu LGA, which is currently housing a central primary school, junior secondary school and a senior secondary school within the premises.
The Governor, who stopped over to see how conducive the school was for learning , expressed displeasure over the encroachment of the premises by mechanics, welders, restaurants, car dealers and other make shift businesses that had become a distraction and a treat to the serenity of the school.
He also discovered that the school was exposed and vehicles had made an alternative route through the school endangering the safety and lives of the school children.
Speaking to the students and staff of the school the Governor decried the way and manner in which stalls and shops surrounded the school thereby blocking sunlight and ventilation from reaching some classes; ordering immediate demolition of all illegal structures for a fence to be raised.
He noted that given the high number of student and the inadequate number of classrooms the government would commence construction of three (3) blocks of classrooms, stating that the school would also receive a supply of 2000 pieces of school furniture .
The Governor enjoined the students to be hardworking, respectful and honest as that would be the only way they could progress and become people of integrity that would hold high positions in the country.
It would be recalled that the administration of Almakura had been constructing fences around all schools in the state as a means of provide safe conducive environments of learning to government schools to secure and avoid distractions to children at school.
