Alleged defamation: Agoro demands N1B, apology from Osun Govt

The Owatapa of Itapa Ijesaland, in Osun State, Dr Olapade Agoro has demanded the sum of N1billion from the Osun State Government as compensation for an alleged damage on his character.
Dr Agoro in a protest letter addressed to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy, Water Resources, Rural and Community Affairs, Osogbo, Osun State and copied   the Commissioner of Police, Osun State command and the Director, Department of State Security Services (DSS), Osun State Command, also demanded apology to be tendered within 7days.
In the two page letter personally signed by him dated August, 20 2016 and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, Dr Agoro accused the state government of publishing “highly false, reckless and offensive odium concerning” his “good name and reputation”  through a letter dated August, 19, 2016.
“Your open letter dated 19 August, 2016 signed for you by one Femi Ogundun ‘Out of Osun State jurisdiction, expressly hand delivered on 19 August 2016 to my Olapade Agoro estate, Ibadan and received for me by one of the spiritual healing seeking visitors is hereby acknowledged with shock, embarrassment and trepidation,” he said.
Dr Agoro while calling for immediate withdrawal of the letter, denied ever receiving “any letter from the state government under reference CD.9/19/Vol 11 555 of November 2006 containing “the piece of advice to your good self”, adding that the Permanent Secretary as a seasoned civil servant ought to have attached such a letter as reference to that of August 19, 2016.
He wondered why such a letter from the Osun State Government would be delivered on him at his Ibadan base Estate address, adding that “at no time particularly of recent have I written any letter to you on Chieftaincy issues specifying Ibadan as my base address for letter delivery”.
According to Dr Agoro, “the issue of ‘Owa Atapami or that of ‘Atapa’ chieftaincy restoration is a settled matter in the case of Agoro Vs Aromolaran ANR and for better punctuation of some key issues now subject matter of Appeal before the court of Appeal, Akure Division in suit no CA/1/223/2003”.
“In addition is the fact of pending suit no: HIL/m.16/ 2016  Agoro Vs Odunayo ANRS and which case seeks answers to the issue of Elerinmo of Erinmo Itapa Ijesa being statutory tenants of Owa Atapami on Itapa Ijesaland. And as well my written submittion dated 2016-07-28 delivered and received on 4/8/2016 by the Osun state Government instituted “Judicial Commission into Disputed Chieftaincy Declarations and Other Allied Chieftaincy Matters”.
He however stressed in addition to the N1billion compensation, the apology must be published in atleast three national dailies, saying, “unless the conditions stipulated hereby are met by you, I will without further notice, cause writ of claim/s to be issued against you, jointly and severally”
