As a Nigerian who is currently witnessing the tornado of political interests in the country, there is no need for any one to sit you down and tell you about the political tension that is currently ongoing in the country’s largest political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is at the verge of selecting it’s fore runners that will guide the party to success in the forthcoming National Elections.
No doubt just like in a relay match there is need to pair the best possible candidates that will eventually re-organise and make the party more organised and structured that will take the party to enviable heights, an organisation that will have its house in order.
Here are some key areas on why the seat best fits Sen. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
Experience:
Almakura while a governor resonated with his colleagues which in today’s situation are mostly Ministers, Senators or Party leaders. His people-centered approach to leadership can be a guide for anyone in a position of authority.
The party is in dire need of a person who can work his way into the forefront of its topmost position so that he will be able to turn bad experiences into valuable work lessons.
Someone that believes in healthy and respectful competition under a political climate that often demands cooperation.
Style:
A leader who understood and accepts his crew men’s quirks and weaknesses, a leader who can let everyone know that he is in charge and confident of success.
A person that inspires optimism in everyone who will put down dissent by keeping the malcontents close to him. And get everyone to let go of the past and focus on the future. Whose work is to keep spirits high.
Al-Makura apart from possessing the above qualities has also succeeded with the unimaginable circumstances of becoming the sole CPC Governor in the country, this was at the time where no one believes that a party like the CPC will be able to secure a local government chairman’s seat.
His ability to lead the party to success in the governorship election in Nasarawa State and provided the President the platform to go into merger talks to form what today is the APC gives the hope that his party stalwarts can believe and look up to him to drive the party to the desired success in 2023.
Al-Makura’s disposition and passion for a strong, united and prosperous political party stands him apart from the other contestants.
Pedigree:
Almakura reached a new pinnacle in leadership when he successfully completed his tenure and also secured a seat in the Senate while ensuring that his party clinched the governor’smseat in Nasarawa state. He built m success on a foundation of camaraderie, loyalty, responsibility, determination, and above all, optimism.
Nevertheless I believe he can do it again and this time in a more detailed way while tapping from his vast experiences.
The first issue many afar will like to link Al-Makura’s quest for the leadership to that of Tinubu. Yes we all believe that the seat is very crucial to the emergence of candidates from the party but that won’t warrant the insinuations that Al-makura will favour Tinubu more than the other aspirants. In one of his speeches, he mentioned outrightly that his goal is to secure the future of the party and in order to do that, he as a leader, must strike a balance and bring fairness, justice and equity to the party as a guide on which he will use as his watchword.
The fact that he’s in good terms with certain aspiring andidates doesn’t make him to automatically work for that same person, he as an individual has his principles and I believe the Nasarawa state scenerio is quite and example of how a good leader he is.
Again, there’s even no basis to compare or ascribe him as a stooge or a Tinubu apologist as there are candidates whose open romance with the said candidate is not hidden, as the social media was awash with stories that the APC national leader has visited a certain aspirant which was not Al-Makura.
The emergence of another former governor from the same state as Al-Makura some may see as a stumbling block to Al-Makura but I see Al-Makura as a rolling stone who gathers more momentum with stumbling blocks,
One can remember that the said person who wants to contest for the same seat with Al-Makura is one of the founding members of the opposition party and left his party when the table turned to the other side. He was also part of the Reconciliation Committee of the ruling party and up until now has not finished any single assignment handed over to him.
Two members from that same Abdullahi Adamu committee are vying for the same seat. He and others that hitherto are the ones that try to destroy the party are now coming over to contest for offices in the same party they sort to destroy. I believe if the tides turn against them, they will not hesitate to jump ship again.
Conclusion:
If truth be told , we should love those leaders we would like to be. Without hesitation, we have to embrace Distinguished Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, the unifier, a humane leader, gentleman, a serious and discerning politician with a personality capable of remarkable feats in leadership, someone who has built a sense of teamwork by bringing diverse groups together to work towards a common goal and a person who can bring order and success to a chaotic environment.
He embodies the attributes of the best leaders: those who have adroitly adapted to an accelerating revolution in the democratic space. His brand of leadership embraces values flexibility, teamwork, and individual triumph. It brings back some of the gentlemanliness and decorum of the past, but without the hidden agenda of an exclusionary inner circle.
There is no greater tribute to a leader. His tools were humor, generosity, intelligence, strength, and compassion overflowing with kindness and generosity, affectionate and loyal.
To this I present to you Sen Umaru Tanko Al-Makura.
