Al Kassim Emerges Kaduna FA Chairman

Following the unanticipated death of former Chairman Honourable Abdulkadir Magaji Kapaka recently, Hon Sheriff Alkassim has emerged to replace him in a decision unanimously adopted on Monday in Kaduna.

Before his upgrade to the position, he was Vice Chairman of the state’s FA.

The confirmation came from the Kaduna FA Secretary Abdussalam Jere who broke the news to journalists, shortly after the decision was adopted by the board.

He said the appointment is backed by the status of the constitution, from Article 33, Sub Section 10.

“Which states that in case a vacancy exists, the executive committee shall fill the position until the next general assembly when replacement will be elected,” he said.

Jere also said the mandate was according to Article 18, of the same status.

“State FA shall take all decisions on any matter regarding their member indepently of any external body,” he  said, adding that the obligation implies regardless of their corporate structure.

Commenting further, the Seceretary  said that Magaji Abdul Alhassan was nominated to fill the gap of vice chairman, pending the decision of general assembly at a yet to be announced date.

The new chairman who is an astute sports administrator hails from Jema’a Local Government Area.

Under the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON), he held several positions under including organising secretary and chief coordinator in Jema’a LGA.

He was appointed under Federation of Youth Soccer Club Owners (FEYSCO)  as national secretary general and later, financial secretary.

He served as board member of the Kaduna FA for four terms as a government nominee.

Alkassim also gathered rich experience in sports administration while he served as Vice chairman, Kaduna Sports Council.

The new FA Chairman became vice chairman of Kaduna FA in 2011, contested again and won in 2015, a tenure that was yet to end before the latest development.

Away from sports, he was elected Councilor Kafanchan B Ward.
