The crisis trailing the primary election of the AllProgressive Congress (APC) held September 3, 2016 in Ondo State, Tuesday assumed a dangerous dimension as supporters of one of the defeated aspirants Chief Olusegun Abraham and those of the party’s candidate, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu made efforts to take over the party Secretariat.
It was the prompt intervention of security operatives that brought the situation under control, even though no life was lost.
Supporters of Chief Akeredolu had gathered at the party Secretariat to address a Press Conference only for the supporters of Olusegun Abraham to emerge and attacked those on ground.
Movement of vehicles along Oba Adesida road was disrupted for few hours before the arrival of the Police and men of Civil Defence Corps who restored peace.
There was relative peace as soon as Abraham came and appealed to the rampaging youths to sheath their sword.
All efforts to speak with Abraham was not fruitful as security operatives disallowed any access.
Commenting on the situation later, the Director of Media and publicity in the state, Mr. Steve Otaloro debunked the report that it was supporters of Abraham that caused the mayhem.
According to him, Olusegun Abraham as one of the pillars of the party and a man of integrity in the state can not descend so low to organise a protest.
He assured that the secretariat belongs to the party and no aspirant can lay claim to its ownership since they all have their campaign offices.
As the Director of Media and Publicity in the state, he said, no one has informed either the Chairman or the Secretary that they want to make use of the Secretariat.
