Vehicular movement of persons will be restricted in some designated areas of Akwa Ibom state today Saturday following the re-run of elections which will be conducted by Independent National Election Commission (INEC) in four state constituencies of the state.
These constituencies include, Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara, Etinan, Ibesikpo Asutan and Oron/Udung Uko while the exercise will also take place in 83 units in Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District of the state.
The State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel in a state-wide broadcast urged people in the affected areas to maintain peace and avoid all acts that are capable of disrupting harmonious co-existence of the people.
Noting that election was not a do-or die affairs, Governor Emmanuel also urged parents and guardians to advise their childrn and wards to remain law-abiding and never allowed themselves to be used to foment trouble during the exercise by agent of destruction.
“Let me use this opportunity to advise citizens and residents to be law abiding in the discharge of their civic responsibility as security agencies have been deployed to ensure law and order in all part of the state”, Governor Emmanuel stated.
“Politic should be played with grace and decency. We are all brothers and sisters who are interested partners in the growth and development of our dear State. We must do everything to ensure our collective success as a people”, the Governor added.
Briefing newsmen in his office in Uyo on the preparation of the re-run poll, Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani said that adequate security have been put in place to ensure a violence free exercise in the affected constituencies and units.
CP Mani warned that the Police would not condone any act of indiscipline by anybody or group seen to be against the peaceful conduct of the poll in the areas.
It would be recalled that earlier elections conducted by the INEC in these areas were set aside following the Appeal Court judgment.  The ruling was sequel to petitions filled by aggrieved candidates at the elections whom many of them were from the All Progressive Congress (APC) who challenged the results of the said poll in the state.
