2023 Governorship hopeful on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Ide Owodiong Idemeko
has advised electorate in the state to look beyond pecuniary gains to voting for someone who is competent to lead and turn around the economy to favour all and sundry.
Ide who made the remarks when he officially consulted the executives of PDP in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area of the state, maintained that only someone who is endowed with competency to occupy the office of the governor can bring development and progress that state yearned for in view of its abundance natural resources.
Obong Ide, who is skillful in oil and gas sector of the economy, emphasized that he will bring his wealth of experience in administration to turn around the fortunes of the state if elected.
He noted that, he was coming into the race to make a difference in the style of governance by improving the quality of education, ensuring massive agricultural implementation/food sufficiency and real empowerment of citizens among other lofty goals.
Ide, who advocated for attitudinal change towards politics also urged voters to remain vigilant all through the electioneering process to ensure that their votes genuinely count to preserve our democracy.
In his words, “The people of Akwa ibom should shine their eyes now, we must get it right to enhance our development and progress, we must strive to protect our democracy by ensuring that our votes count and we must choose competent people at all levels of public office against those with immediate pecuniary benefits”.
Also speaking at the event, Mrs Ekaette Owodiong idemeko, wife of the Aspirant cited passion for service and the need to ensure a better society as the motivation behind her spouse aspiration to lead Akwa ibom state as governor in 2023.
According to her, “I sincerely acknowledged the enormous challenges that come with partisan politics, my husband right from his youthful days have had this intense passion to serve humanity and has been giving at every opportunity to those in need. I believe this platform will provide him with better opportunity to serve greater number of people by providing real development and empowerment across the state, he has my full support to contest and succeed in this coming governorship election”
On his part the chapter chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibesikpo Asutan council area, Hon. Pastor Uwem Etim who extolled the sterling qualities of the Aspirant prayed God to see him through the primaries and the general election up to Hilltop mansion, the official resident of Akwa ibom governor.
“The good lord who has started a good job in you will make it perfect, we will stand with you through the race to the end in appreciation of what you have done for us in this community and the state” he further emphasized.
Hon Eyakno Etukudo, a former member of the state House of Assembly described the aspiration of Obong Ide Owodiong as timely owing to his wealth of experience in administration and love for humanity.
Etukudo, who appealed to Akwa ibomites to give Obong Ide their unalloyed support and votes said the Aspirant whom he knows very closely has a good heart and remains compassionate mostly to the indigent members of the society.
