Uba Sani CARES, is a special project intervention geared at meeting the needs of rural communities in dire need of infrastructures in Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Health and Education, as selected by them.

The 1,416 trained Community Project Management Committees (CPMC) members for the Micro Projects (MPs) implementation, are representatives of their various communities who are expected to ensure quality of basic infrastructural services are kept.

According to the General Manager of the agency, Muhammed Muazu Mukaddas, the training was necessary to empower them with basic knowledge of book keeping, community procurement, monitoring, evaluation and maintenance of the project.

“Presently, the agency has concluded appraisal of 177 communities across 23 LGAs of the state in the areas of education, health, water and sanitation as identified by the various communities.’

“The training is targeted at equipping the present 1,416 CPMCs for the 177 successful communities across the 23 LGAs with basic knowledge of simple Book keeping, Community Procurement, Monitoring & Evaluation, Maintenance and the key roles of the CPMCs

“Beyond the numbers and statistics, these MPs will make great impact in the lives of the citizens and contribute immensely in the actualization of the SUSTAIN agenda.” He explained.

He added that the project is part of the agency’s mandate to ensure the reduction in poverty levels within communities.

“The agency is saddled with the responsibility of reducing poverty levels within communities by bridging the gap of the unreached groups (Gender and vulnerable) through a Community Driven Development approach (CDD) targeted at the provision of basic social and infrastructure services in rural and urban poor areas.” Mukaddas, said.

On her part, Mrs Oyigwe Sunny, Monitoring and Evaluation Manager of the agency, explained that the CDD approach empowered communities on project implementation as identified by the community.

“As part of the agency’s responsibility, we are to bring government close to the people by guiding the people to carry on with the project implementation.”

She said that the programme was a World Bank supported project tagged, ‘Uba Sani CARES.’

Sunny, therefore, commended the participants for high turn-out.

Also, Mr Ibrahim Mato, Chairman CPMC Kachia LGA, commended KADCSDA for the enlightenment toward maintaining infrastructural development in communities.
