Lagos State health agency has arrested an alleged quack surgeon and sealed his medical facility.
The quack, Mr. Onomoh Eleazer who is the proprietor of Empire Medical Centre, Ikorodu was nabbed by officials of  Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFEMAA).
Investigation revealed that he performed surgical operations without obtaining professional certificate and licence to practice surgery.
Dr. Olufemi Onanuga, Special Adviser on Primary Healthcare (PHC) to the governor, said:  “The culprit Mr. Onomoh Eleazer had recently performed surgical operations on three out of the seven patients admitted in his facility before HEFEMAA arrested him and shut down the facility.”
Onanuga stated that all patients  found at the alleged quack’s medical centre were transferred to the General Hospital Ikorodu for proper treatment.
Onomoh said he studied medicine in Dominican Republic but could not collect his certificate.
He also claimed that he trained under Dr. Godwin Kanu, a retired consultant traumatologist and orthopedist for 14 years after his return to Nigeria, adding that he has been practicing medicine since then.
Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, while speaking on the development, said that other facilities had been closed down by HEFEMAA in recent time in a measure taken to regulate and sanitize the operation of health facilities in order to eradicate quackery in the state’s health sector.
Idris assured that Onomoh would be punished according to the laws of the land.
