The Nigeria’s farmers group otherwise known as the Agbekoya Farmers Society has warned miscreants to stop using the society’s name to commit criminal act like the last week attack on policemen at the Ogbere Onilanta, Akanran in Ibadan
Agbekoya in a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olatunji Bandele frowned at the attack on the policemen by the armed miscreants parading themselves as members of the society.
In the statement, the National Executive Council of the Agbekoya Society described those that attacked the policemen at a checkpoint close to a police station as impersonators.
Chief Bandele stated that the National Executive Council of the society meeting attended by the President General, Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola, Dr. Ogunlana Adegbenro, the General Secretary, Chief Salawu Ajibola, Treasurer and other national officers frowned at the development and publicly denounced this.
“These miscreants and hoodlums are not registered members of the great society, and that among them were some bad eggs who have been dismissed from  Agbekoya Farmers Society for thuggery behaviors and militancy, but are going about to destroy and dent the image and integrity of our group especially in the Southwest” he said.
Chief Bandele added “these people are miscreants and hoodlums who are not registered members of Agbekoya Farmers Society and who have teamed up with some bad eggs who were dismissed from our Society for thuggery behaviors and militancy and are bent on destroying and denting the image and integrity of our group”.
“These people were reported to the Inspector General of Police through a petition dated 30th September, 2015 and which was copied the Director General of the Department of State Security Services, Headquarters, Abuja, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone II, Osogbo, and the Commissioner of Police of Oyo State.
“Agbekoya Farmers Society is a registered corporate organization registered with Corporate Affairs Commission since 2012 with Certificate No, CAC/IT/NO.51134, with a mission to practice commercial and mechanized farming in Nigeria”.
He stressed that “Agbekoya Farmers Society, which was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission since 2012 is a corporate organization with a mission to practice commercial and mechanized farming in Nigeria and abroad. Agbekoya is not a militant group”.
“In view of this, any group of people or criminals who are impersonating and hiding under the name of Agbekoya to perpetuate crimes should be dealt with accordingly”.
Agbekoya in the statement urged “the police and other security agencies to assist the organization in dealing with these impersonators and criminals according to the law and be brought to book in order to serve as a deterrent to others”.
