National President of All Farmers Association of Nigeria, (AFAN), Alhaji Farouk Rabiu Mudi on Tuesday declared that the association is committed into supporting its members to boost agricultural production and employment generation with relevant inputs.
The AFAN National President made this known at the distribution of the first batch of brand new Tractors to farmers in Oyo state held at Terudee farms, Idi Omo .
He pointed out that AFAN is also ready to ensure steady and adequate food production in Nigeria, adding, that all these are geared towards improving food production in the country.
Alhaji Midi maintained that the relevant inputs will include tractors, stressing, in 2020, Kano, Zamfara and Kwara states including Federal Capital Territory were supported with brand new tractors to improve their farming activities.
” We are delightful to inform you that we are about to launch and present to AFAN Oyo state chapter, set of new Tractors for the use of our farmers. Furthermore, in order to assure steady and adequate food production, AFAN is making effort to assist farmers with irrigation facilities for all year round farming as well as providing relevant information,” he said.
Mubi added, “we want to assure you that we will not feed our farmers with wrong information that will have adverse effects on the progress of the profession in Nigeria. Data collection and identification are essential in planning in all aspects of life”.
” In this connection therefore, AFAN is urging farmers to co-operate and register their members with the various state chapters of the association for identification so as to benefit from both the government and private sectors interventions”.
In his address Oyo state AFAN Chairman, Engineer John Olateru said there is the need for the present government in the country to fix the exchange rate, saying, “if the present government can fix the exchange rate, sincerely, Nigeria will be great again”
” The government should do all they could to help the citizen in their economy plight . Sincerely, the exchange rate has destroys the Nigeria economy. We suppose to buy more than this, but the exchange rate. Government should not sleep on this, we are suppose to loose sleep on that for the nation to move forward”, he said.
Commending Oyo state government on the distribution of the tractors, Engineer Olateru said ” this kind of thing had not happened in any state by the farmers, indeed Oyo state is a pacesetter in any giant stride development”
According to him, one of the problem and challenges farmers are experiencing in Nigeria ” is the fact that we lack leaders that have vision”, saying, ” agriculture suppose to be the main stay of Nigeria economy.”
