The National executive of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has said that farmers in the country and the association have nothing to celebrate or exhibit at this time, thereby disowning a fair billed for November 16 in Abuja.
Alhaji Salisu Mukhtar, Assistant National Public Relations Officer of the association who expressed this in a statement issued to New Nigerian, said that especially, so soon after the Annual National Agricultural Show held between October 10 to 14, 2022, whoever is doing this is living in denial of the realities in Nigeria’s Agricultural System.
According to him, the persons spearheading this event have several cases before the EFCC for
defrauding AFRICOT INVESTMENTS LTD and CARDINAL STONE ASSET MANAGEMENT for unpaid farm machinery (Tractors) supplied in the name of AFAN.
“We want to dissociate ourselves from this event because the Nigerian farmers and all Nigerians for that matter are grappling with several shocks in the food system sprouting from flooding, insecurity and severe food price hikes.
“The Executive of the association have been receiving questions from SHFs (Small Holder Farmers) on a
“Farmers Day Celebration” purported to be convened by AFAN in collaboration with the FMARD and a mobile telephone company on November 16, 2022 at the
Eagle Square or Abuja Chamber of Commerce Complex along Airport Road and for which they are being asked to register, participate and exhibit their products by paying various sums of money ranging from N1,000,000, N500,000 to N50,000.
“Accordingly the matter is listed as FHC/ABJ/CS/1212/2022 Between Incorporated Trustees of AFAN, Farouk Rabi’u Mudi and Yunusa Halidu AND
EFCC, AFRICOT INVESTMENT Ltd and CARDINAL STONE ASSET MANAGEMENT.”
