An elder statesman and Chairman Northern Elders Forum Professor Ango Abdullahi has charged Barewa Old Boys to adopt characteristics and leadership qualities they were known with at all levels of endeavour.
Ango gave the charge while giving a remark at the Post-graduation reunion of members of Class of 1970 intake held at the College Assembly hall at the weekend.
He said, Northern Nigeria’s problems is their collective responsibilities which they failed to address ever since.
” I have no apology to anybody on this remarks because already the North is set on serious trouble”. He said.
On the political economy, Professor Ango who is the Magajin Rafin Zazzau, said, adopting Presidential system of government kills Nigeria’s democracy, adding that even in America, the Presidential system is not working.
The elder statesman lamented on how Northerners collected one noodles and N1,000. to vote wrongly, which is their problem, warning that Northern problem is created by the Northerners.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III called on old students associations to support their alma mata to compliment government’s efforts in the education sector.
Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar expressed gratitude to Allah for sparing their lives to reunite after fifty years.
He called on Muslims to imbibe the spirit of brotherhood and prayed for Allah to end the security challenges being faced in the country.
The Sultan said, the class of 1970 remains committed in assisting the college at any time for the progress and development of their Alma-mata.
In his paper presentation, titled, “Repositioning Nigeria on a Path of Sustainable Growth and Development, challenges and Opportunities” Lieutenant General Abdulrahman Bello Danbazau (rtd) mentioned series of challenges Nigerian is facing.
General Danbazau pointed out that forty six per cent of Nigerians represent 83:98 million people of the population, have no access to electricity.
He added that issue of security needs collective efforts of all Nigerians in order to achieve the desired peace and unity in the country.
He stressed the need for Barewa Old Boys Association Class of 1970 to remain united and maintain the relationship among the Association.
The representative of national president Barewa Old Boys Association, Alhaji Shehu Muhammed, Sarkin Shanun Kano, assured all Alama mata that the association is always ready to contribute its quota in nation building and moving the college forward.
After the assembly, the old boys went round the college to see the situation on ground physically and where to come in and support.
