The Adamawa State Government has promised to be a model of peace and security in the North East sub region.
Deputy Governor Martins Babale, made the disclosure at a two-day North-East Human Rights Peace and Security conference holding at El Kanemi Hall of University of Maiduguri.
According to him, the state is working on a peace architecture and an all inclusive process geared towards stabilizing the state.
Babale, who was represented by Principal Assistant to Governor Muhammad Umaru Jibrilla Bindow, Dr. Agoso Bamaiyi, while declaring the workshop open expressed the commitment of the state government towards the peace architecture.
He said the peace architecture will be anchored through the Ministry of Information and Strategy.
Earlier, Rajendra Mulmi, the Country Director of Search For Common Ground (SFCG), said the body came to the region in respond to violent extremism.
According to Director, the summit aims at discussing emerging challenges among stakeholders to combat extreme violence.
Represented by Cleto Manjova, Rajendra said Common Groung approach is collaborative to ensure the right impact is created.
Representing the Director General of National Human Rights Commission, Barrister Dahiru Bobbo, urged security agencies to adhere to rules of engagement.
He disclosed that the commission have put in place mechanisms to monitor Human Rights violations.
Professor Mala Dauda, a former Vice Chancellor of University of Maiduguri, in a keynote address, describe the conference as timely considering the prevailing situation.
He said peace is a global struggle which is necessary and vital for peaceful co existance.
Dauda stated that the academia has contributed immensely in championing peace through fora and symposia.
He was optimistic that the conference will provide a template for sustainable peace and security.
In a welcome address, Fatima Madaki, Senior Project Coordinator of SFCG explained that the conference brought together stakeholders including the media to highlight existing and emerging peace and Human Rights concerns as well as develop a two year agenda for peace and Human Rights in the Northeast.
Our correspondent reports that the summit is expected to fashion a two years master plan road map to peaceful coexistence and geared at mapping an integrated and locally owned peace and human right agenda for the Northeast.
Participants drawn from all the states in the Northeast included politicians, security personnel, civil society groups, media and technocrats.
