The Provost Adamawa State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Comrade Lami Aminu has commended the state government over the new look and admission policy of the college.
She said seeing the importance of the college, the Governor Ahmadu Fintiri-led administration gave it all the support it needs in order to address clinical manpower shortage in state health facilities and also ensure a conducive learning environment for students.
The provost disclosed that iin view of this support, the college has increased student enrolment by 100 per cent.
Aminu, who made this known in an interview with New Nigerian, said the development was as a result of gross inadequate nursing and midwifery staff to meet the needs of the people.
She maintained that the college now gives admission twice a year.
Aminu who is also the president of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, maintained that the new admission policy followed approval by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, in collaboration with the World Health Organisation”
She the college offers courses in Basic Nursing, Basic Midwifery and Community Nursing/Midwifery.
The provist explained that all the programmes were certified and approved by the council.While thanking the state government and other donor agencies that have contributed in one way or the other towards the school,, the provost like Oliver Twist is asking for more.
She said with the new admission policy, the college is in need of more classes and hostels to accommodate students.
“The most pressing challenge of the collage now is hostel accommodation, since we increase student enrollment by 100%, we are managing the available facilities”, she state.

Aminu told NAN that local governments in the state had the responsibility to employ and deploy clinical manpower in to their respective primary health facilities for effective service delivery.
She hoped that the new admission policy of the college would help to reduce mortality and morbidity in the state.
“The massive admission programme was designed for five years – from 2020 to 2025, “ she said.
She said the college would need more office accommodations, hostels and instructors’ facilities for effective teaching and learning environment.
