ABU Zaria In House Unions Intensify Strike Action

The hope of early resumption of full academic activities in the nations universities in 2018 have suffered a huge set back as in house unions are set to intensify strike actions, particularly in Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.

The joint action congress an in-house unions of Ahmadu Bello University are currently on strike over non implementation of agreement reached with them and the Federal Government.

Speaking on the protest the National Women Leader of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Comrade Hadiza Abubakar said, federal government has failed to implement the tenets of the agreement reached with the non academic staff unions in October last year.

Comrade Hadiza who spoke on behalf of NASU, NAAT and SSANU who made the JAC as an in-house union said it will no longer be favoured the Academic Staff performed their duties as for the first time academic staff union of universities in ABU distribute the money in the manner they wanted sidelining the bursary department.

She said, their struggle will continue until when giving Federal Govt resolved the crisis its course for giving priority to Academic Staff only on the matter concerning the nation universities.

In a solidarity match to senate building and meet the Vice Chancellor Prof. Ibrahim Garba on his way out of the senate the unions stopped him with solidarity slogans and he replied them with “continue shouting for nothing” he left in his official vehicle.

The unions have ordered for the total closure of university power bank, water and ICT for internet use by new and returning students.
