ABU Peace Zone win 2015 BB4P National Championship

The Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Peace Zone have emerged champions of the 2015 Basketball For Peace (BB4P) in a highly competitive final, played at the Gymnasium Hall, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.
The final matches which were watched by several dignitaries includingthe Director-General Nigerian Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu, ABU Basketball Foundation (ABUBBF), Professor Adamu Ahmed, saw DAC Peace Zone finishing second.
The third spot went to Television Peace Zone, Mini Stadium Peace Zone placed fourth and NDA and Barau Dikko Peace Zones placed fifth and sixth respectively.
In the secondary schools category, DSS ABU Zaria were first, SSS Kufena placed second, GSS Television finished third and Command Secondary School, Kaduna settled for the fourth position.
In an interview with newsmen, Programme Manager, BB4P, Coach Oliver Johnson said that its annual competition is in its 14th edition, with the first, held in 2003.
He said BB4P had to source for funds to sustain the competition from organizations that know the importance of maintaining peaceful societies, through positively engaging youths.
“I am impressed with the outcome of this year’s edition, it is so far the best, with 8 states out of the 14 we are presently covering represented,” he added.
While fielding questions from newsmen, BB4P Assistant Programme Manager, Edward Tox described the skills displayed as fantastic. He said that with such display, Nigeria may soon dominate basketball in Africa.
The competitions were held on round-robin, with the team with the highest wins emerging tops.
