ABU Hosts NAPHER-SD’s 50th Anniversary Conference  Tomorrow

A national conference in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Nigeria Association for Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance (NAPHER-SD) will hold tomorrow at CBN Centre for Economics and Finance, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

According to a statement by the Public Affairs Directorate,

Wednesday September 14, 2022,  the conference, titled “Business Potentials and Tapping in the Profession of Physical, Health Education, Recreation, Sports and Dance,” is put together by the 50-year old association. 

Hon. Minister of Youths and Sports Development Mr. Sunday Dare, will give a keynote address at the one-day conference which will be chaired by Kano veteran Commissioner and former NFA Chairman Alhaji Ibrahim Galadima.

The association’s executive members led by its National President, Prof. R.O. Okuneye, had earlier today paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala and thanked the University for all the supports towards successful hosting of the event.

The President expressed satisfaction with the level of preparation for the conference, saying that the warm reception accorded them was a good sign that the conference would be a huge success.

Receiving the executive members of the association, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, described the remarks by the NAPHER-SD President on the University’s hospitality as encouraging.

Prof. Doko said that Ahmadu Bello University always accorded sports top priority as it had now become a lucrative business industry all over the world. 

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor challenged the association as a professional sports body to identify staff and students with hidden sports talent for appropriate training leading to award of a certificate or even diploma.

Doko, who implored them to explore the ABU environment during their stay in the University, assured that the Vice-Chancellor would grace the occasion.

Those on the entourage of the NAPHER-SD President included Vice-President of the association, Prof. J.E.F. Okpako; NAPHER-SD Publication Secretary, Prof. M.I. Yakassai; Financial Secretary, Prof. I Umidekwen; and Director-General, National Institute of Sports, Prof. O.A. Moronkola.

Others were Secretary-General, Dr. Franz Ataire; Chairman LOC, Prof. J.A. Gwani; Treasurer, Dr. Joy Mayeki; Ex-Officio, Prof. F.B. Adeyanju; Assistant Secretary, Prof. E.A. Gunen; and Public Relations Officer, Otumba Sylvester Ikwejamiye.
