ABU Establishes Additional 5 Engineering Departments


The Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Prof. Ibrahim Garba has said that the University has established five additional departments under the Faculty of Engineering in keeping face with the global development.
He stated this at the opening ceremony of the workshop, on sharing knowledge organized by the Faculty of Engineering of the University held at the Assembly Hall in the main Campus in Samaru, Zaria.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Prof. Kabir Bala said, with this development, the management is trying its best despite shortage of funds to provide facilities within its limited resources as well as collaborating with the friends of the University like L.N.G and NNPC.
Prof. Garba, added that excellence is pursued at various levels through initiatives by the world bodies in moving the technological advancement towards realizations of global needs.
He said, ABU Zaria won a place to compete represented by its civil engineering department in 2012 among 60 African universities while, Mechanical Engineering is chosen for Sub-Sahara Africa for global competition.
In his presentation, the Dean Faculty of Engineering Professor Mohammed Dauda said, ABU, has realized the importance of automotive technology engineering  as one of the skills that cuts across how to learn engineering.
According to him, the department has engaged in the Shell Competition from 2013 and European and South Africa in 2015.
Prof. Dauda lamented that, students lack team working activities, while pleading with industries to come up and support the students towards   achieving the needed technological advancement development and also to support the academicians in their research activities through partnership.
He also suggested two years internship to enhance the grandaunts skills during their school days on what they learnt theoretically.
