ABU A Good Team Player In NYSC Project, Says Kaduna Coordinator

Ahmadu Bello University has been a good team player in the cardinal programmes of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) since the inception of the scheme in 1973, NYSC Coordinator for Kaduna State, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche, said in Zaria on Tuesday September 13, 2023. 

This was contained in a statement by the Public Affairs Directorate,

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, dated  September 13, 2022.

It said that the coordinator, who spoke when he led members of his management team on a courtesy visit to the university, explained that ABU always cooperated towards the success of the national youth service programme in NIgeria. 

“We don’t have any cause to complain against ABU as the University always plays the good game of the national scheme despite its huge size as a first generation university”, he said. 

Oche described Ahmadu Bello University as a great institution which has continued to live above board in its core mandate of teaching, research and community service. 

He said that he was glad to be in Ahmadu Bello University in his capacity as coordinator of the scheme to familiarize himself, and thanked the University management for according him warm reception. 

Receiving the NYSC Coordinator, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, expressed gratitude to the Kaduna NYSC boss for the good testimonies about the University. 

Prof. Doko explained that ABU was always conscious of its role as a premier University in the North, and it would continue to remain a world class centre of learning in line with the vision of its founding fathers. 

Doko, who assured the Coordinator and members of his team of the University’s readiness to continue to work together with NYSC for national development, urged the national scheme to take advantage of the University’s entrepreneurship program to further enhance its Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED). 

The Coordinator later had an interactive session with corps members posted to the University for the one-year mandatory national youth service. 

Those who assisted the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, to receive the NYSC Coordinator and members of his entourage, included Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Danladi Amodu Ameh; the Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila; Ag. University Librarian, Malam Abdulhamid Gambo Liman; and Deputy Bursar, Finance, Malam Garba Shehu. 

Others were, Deputy Registrar, Human Resources Administration, Hajiya Ramatu Mohammed; Deputy Registrar, Directorate of Academic Affairs, Malam Nasir Belo; Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Malam Auwalu Umar; Deputy Registrar and Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Auwalu Y. Mohammed; and the University Career Officer, Malam Umar Kasimu.
