As part of measures to ensure that the Kaduna Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM), is able to deliver on its vision without dependence on external forces, Evidence for Action otherwise known as E4A-MamaYe, on Wednesday, commenced a process to enable it stand on its own.

The organization is supporting KADMAM to review its strategic documents to comply with global best practices as they work to achieve a state free of maternal and child deaths.

The two days meeting is aimed at providing guidance to KADMAM to review its vision, mission, goals, objectives, values statements, and organisational structure according to the Co-chair, Malam Mustapha Jumare.

He added that the support also includes providing guidance to review and adapt Standard Operating Procedures  (SOPs) of the host CSOs including administrative, financial and other relevant policies and guidance to draft content for the letter of agreement.

Jumare, expressed hope that at the end of the exercise, KADMAM, should be able to, in no time stand on her own, adding “we believe that we will be able to fulfill all our commitments to the citizens of Kaduna State.

“The plan of MamaYe, is for us to start obtaining grants working on our own rather than being supported only and that would show a sign of accountability and transparency which is our own goal. By the time we have funds allotted to us to execute project for a period that will show that we have come of age”.

He thanked MamaYe, for the review of the strategic documents which he said would make the mechanism become more effective.

Kaduna State E4A Advisor, Elkana Aliyu, said MamaYe’s objective for KADMAM is to help her to become a resilient organization that will be able champion improved Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH+N) in Kaduna State.

“E4A-MAMAYE, is concerned about KADMAM’s sustainability and for that to achieved, there is the need for the review of the vision, mission and other relevant documents.” He added.

According to him, they want to also ensure that KADMAM is able to consider social norms and gender stereotypes that impedes positive health outcomes for RMNCAH+N, conducts gender responsive advocacy for improved maternal, newborn and child health outcomes.

To also be able to connect to learning and support (Peer-to-Peer Learning) and also be able develop learning products, Global Public Goods (GPGs) and shares through local and global forums.

“To work independently and efficiently, action their strategies and plans, to have structures (organizational, financial, technical) that enable them access public and donor funds.

“Able to independently mobilize resources (public and private) to action their strategies, demand- driven technical support and become accountable, transparent and effective while advocating and holding government accountable.” Elkana explained.
