Health Care: Emir of Dass counsels colleagues, religious leaders

The Emir of Dass in Bauchi State, Usman Bilyaminu Othman has appealed to traditional and religious leaders to take up the responsibility of ‎protecting health facilities in their communities to enhance and effectively maintain health care system in the state.‎
Othman made the plea at a one day media dialogue with traditional, religious and community leaders on promoting child and family health care delivery in the state held at his palace weekend.
The dialogue was organized by the Federation of Muslim Women Association of Nigeria (FOMWAN) in collaboration with Partnership for Advocacy in Child and Family Health Project (PACFAH) on promoting child and family health care delivery in the state.
“It is our sole‎ responsibility to give protection to infrastructure, equipment, staff  in health facilities in our communities. We cannot fold our arms and wait for government to come protect those facilities that we and our subjects benefit from”, the emir said.
Alhaji Othman who spoke on the role of traditional institutions in promoting child and family health in his emirate, directed traditional rulers in the area not to relent in protecting health facilities from vandals.‎
“So I directed that all District Heads, Village Heads, Pastors and Imams to rise up to their responsibilities and give protection to the health facilities towards enhancement of effective heath care delivery ” He said.

He also called on students in the state to study science and other medical related courses in order to fill the vacant positions of health personnel in the state. The Emir decried the shortage of professional staff in most hospitals in the state.
An official of PACFAH, Malam Abdullahi Ibrahim, while presenting a paper on the road map to achieving effective family, said statistics has shown that of every one hundred thousand deliveries in Nigeria, there is five hundred and sixty deaths, meaning in every one hour, at least five deaths occur in the country.
He commended the State Governor, Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar for the budgetary allocation of 15% in this years’ budget to the health sector, describing Bauchi as the only state in the federation to accord the desired attention to the health sector.
In her contribution, the State Chairperson of Rahama Women Development Association, Mrs. Helen Jamal said the event could not have come at a better time, when stakeholders need to support the state government to implement its policies and programmes on health.
Mrs. Jamal reiterated the readiness of women groups in the state to rally round the present administration in the state to achieve the desired goals in the health sector.
The Chief Imam of Bauchi, Malam Bala Ahmad Baban Inna has also in a remark, encouraged Muslim couples to plan well their families, stressing that child spacing will enhance good health.
Other speakers at the occasion included the State CAN chairman Reverend Joshua and Malam Abdurrahman Ghani from the State Office of Jama’atu Nasril Islam(JNI) , who expressed the support of both Islam and Christianity in health education among the populace.
Earlier, the State Ameerah of FOMWAN, Hajia Yagana Muhammad Gidado, called on Governor Abubakar to focus more on prevention and outbreak of diseases to minimize maternal and child mortality in the state.
