As Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence anniversary, expert has emphasized the crucial role mentorship plays in transforming the nation’s trajectory to enviable status among commity of Nations.
National President of the Association of Professional Mentors and Coaches of Nigeria (APMCN), Dr. Rotimi Mathew, stated this in his congratulatory message to Nigerians at home and in diaspora on Saturday, October 5, 2024.
To him, mentorship is the key to unlocking Nigeria’s potential believing that, “by investing in our people, we’ll build a brighter future characterized by effective leadership, entrepreneurial growth, social mobility, and national unity”.
His call was coming at a time Nigeria faces numerous challenges, including unemployment, poverty, corruption, and inequality.
He emphasized that with right investment leveraging existing professional bodies like APMCN, mentorship can bridge the gap between potential and achievement.
“Mentorship fosters innovation, entrepreneurship, and job creation, and drive economic growth.
“Again, it promotes social mobility, helping individuals overcome socio-economic barriers, and transcends ethnic, religious, and regional divides”, the mentoring expert added.
To harness the power of mentorship, Dr. Rotimi recommended establishment of mentorship programmes in schools, universities, and workplaces.
He also harped on training mentors with necessary skills and knowledge, encouraging intergenerational mentorship, fostering a culture of mentorship and celebrating mentorship success stories among others.
He, however, urged the federal government, private sector, civil society, media and individuals to commit to building a mentorship-driven nation.
“We must join hands to create a mentorship revolution that shapes Nigeria’s future,” Dr. Mathew emphasized.
With effective mentorship, Nigeria can evelop effective leaders, foster entrepreneurial growth, promote social mobility and enhance national unity.
