Borno Launches Third Phase Teachers Training Programme For 1,230 Teachers

The Borno State Government has launched the third phase of its teacher training programme, targeting 1,230 teachers from five local government education authorities on Thursday.

The programme which was held at the Institute of Education, Borno State University, is aimed at improving pedagogy and communication skills among teachers to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

The state government has allocated N282,761,760 for the ten-day training programme.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, represented by the Commissioner of Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Hon. Sugun Mai Mele, praised the Education Commissioner’s efforts in implementing the government’s education policies.

Zulum also emphasised the importance of teachers’ commitment to justify the government’s significant investment in education.

The governor also announced that teachers who failed the refresher examination would be absorbed into local government administration.

Each of the 1,230 participants will receive a 50,000 naira take-home payment and a 30,000 naira monthly stipend from October to December. Additionally, trained teachers will be placed on the 30,000 naira minimum wage level.

Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe has resumed office as the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation in Borno State, highlighting the government’s generosity in retaining teachers.

He also noted that in addition to the 1 billion naira allocated for the training program, an additional 7.5 million naira was provided for teachers trained in Bama and Biu.

Key stakeholders, including the SUBEB Chairman Professor Bulama Kagu, Director of the Institute of Education Abdallah Dala Hassan, and Coordinator of the AGILE program Ibrahim Baba, commended the government’s efforts and pledged their support.

Labour leaders Yusuf Inuwa and Garba Zali thanked the government for absorbing teachers who failed previous training into local government administration.

Participant Ahmadu Ishaku expressed gratitude for the opportunity and pledged to utilise the training effectively.
