The Borno State Flood Relief Distribution Committee has commenced Verification Process for over 7,000 victims affected by recent flood disaster in Limanti Ward of Maiduguri Metropolitan Council on Saturday in Maiduguri city.
The exercise is being conducted at Abubakar ibn Garbai El Kanemi Primary School.
This marks the second phase of the verification exercise following the earlier assessment of houses and facilities in Gwange 1 few days ago, when Governor Zulum launched food and non food distribution exercise for victims of the flood disaster.
As part of the process, the names of those impacted have been publicly displayed at the district head’s palace for confirmation, complaints and feedback.
Similarly, a complaint desk has also been established on-site of all the verification centers to address any complaint of mistakes or errors or omissions that may arise in the data or particulars of the enlisted victims affected in each household registered.
The Chairman Flood Relief Distribution Committee, Engr. Baba Bukar Gujibawu has reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to conducting a transparent, fair and just verification process for the flood victims.
He also urged those affected to remain patient, while assuring that no legitimate victim will be sidelined or overlooked.
“Today, we see the community of Limanti turning out in large numbers as early as 7am. We will meticulously follow the process to ensure that no one is left behind,” Gujibawu said.
It would be recalled that Governor Zulum on Tuesday September 24, flagged off the distribution of relief items to over 5,000 victims of the flood disaster in Gwange 1 Ward and immediately, commenced house-to-house assessment of the destruction by the flood, while pledging to ensure all those affected are catered for, including the host communities with a view to stabilizing socio economic activities and returning normalcy to the city.
