The member representing Jere Federal Constituency, Borno State, Hon. Ahmed Satomi has donated N200 million to assist in ameliorating the current hardship faced by the victims of flood disaster that ravaged Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Area.
This donation from Satomi is the highest so far amongst the state and National Assembly members so far, who made donations and contributed in cash and kind to the Borno State Government.
It would be recalled that on September 10, 2024, Alau Dam which has reservoir capacity of 112 million cubic meters collapsed.
It was designed to support irrigation activities on the Alau River bank that is now used to supply tap water in Maiduguri and Jere LGA.
The flood, apart from killing many people, also displaced over a million people with houses, farmlands, schools, markets and critical infrastructure destroyed.
While on visit to Governor Zulum in Maiduguri on Saturday, Hon. Satomi commiserated with the government and the people of the state, especially victims.
He also prayed God to grant Aljannatul Firdaus to those who lost their lives, and wished the injured ones quick recovery.
He then announced his modest donation of N200 million for onward distribution to the victims.
Responding, Governor Zulum expressed his deep appreciation to Satomi for not only donating huge sum of money to the flood Basket Funds, but also handy on daily basis in providing food and non-food items to victims since the incident occured.
Zulum assured the lawmaker that the money donated would be judiciously utilized for the purpose intended.
