The South West Coordinator of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mr Kadiri Olanrewaju has disclosed that no fewer than 10 persons were feared killed in the recent clash between herders and farmers in Gbenpakan community, Saki West Local Government Area of Oyo State
Mr Olanrewaju made this known in Saki at a briefing with stakeholders after an on-the-spot assessment, carried out in collaboration with State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA in the affected community.
According to the NEMA South West Coordinator, three individuals sustained injuries during the clash on 27th August, this year adding that the three injured persons are currently receiving treatment in the hospital.
He stressed that the conflict followed tensions on farm land, with the farmers accusing the herders of encroaching on their farmland for grazing purposes.
While sympathizing with the affected community, Mr Olanrewaju urged the farmers and herders in the affected communities to live peacefully, he noted that the solution to recurrence of the clash was to have organized animal rearing.
Receiving the NEMA and the SEMA team, the Chairman, Saki West LGA, Hon. Gbenga Akinola said he had held a peace meeting with aggrieved parties to douse the tension.
