Retired Shari’a Court Judge In Court Over Alleged Assault On Blind Housewife In Zaria

A retired Upper Shari’a Court Judge has been arraigned before a Magistrate Court sitting at Tudun Wada Zaria, for allegedly using force and assaulting a housewife who is a blind person, contrary to section 327, 237 and 239 of Penal Code Law of Kaduna State 2017.

Inspector Adamu Abubakar, the prosecuting officer, told the court that on September 6, 2024, one Garba Adda’u a resident of Gonar Ganye Tudun Jukun Zaria made a complain at Tudun Wada Divisional Police Office that one Mahmoud Shehu lucked up their main gate and followed his wife who is a blind person into her room and beat her alongside two other ladies trying to give her cover.

The prosecutor also said, Mahmoud Shehu’s action resulted to the victim going to the PHC Tudun Wada for medical attention.

When the court asked the defendant Mahmoud Shehu if he committed the offense mentioned, he denied commiting the offense read to him.

The defence counsel, Barrister S.M. Abubakar applied for a self bail because of the personality his client is as a retired Upper Shari’a Court Judge.

The prosecution rejected the application, based on the nature of the case as both parties are staying at the same compound that the complainant’s safety is at stake.

Senior Magistrate Lukman Sidi granted the bail on conditions that N50.000, one surety with passport and full address on failing to meet the bail requirements, Mahmoud Shehu should be remanded at the correctional facility to the adjourned date October 8, 2024 for hearing.

Furthermore, the court directed all the parties to live in peace, but anyone who breaches the peace will face the law of the court.
