Fear has griped workers of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku Ozalla, and environs, following the invasion of it’s premises yesterday morning by suspected kidnappers, who allegedly abducted a female Director (name withheld) in one of the departments and a private security man.
It was gathered that the kidnappers opened fire on the SUG vehicle of the director while driving to work, which forced her to stop, after which the gunmen whisked her away alongside the security man to unknown destination.
Our correspondent reports that the ugly incident has thrown workers of the hospital located along the insecured Enugu-Port Harcourt express way in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State into fear.
It would be recalled that some medical doctors serving at the hospital were about two years ago, kidnapped by unknown gunmen who later released them after allegedly collecting huge ransom.
Efforts by our reporter to speak with the State Police Command on the development failed, as its spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, did not pick the calls put across to his phone, neither did he reply the SMS sent to him.
As at the time of filling this report, the hospital leadership is yet to make any statement on the incident.
