A political pressure group under the auspices of The Equality Movement (TEM), has said that the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, possesses the leadership qualities to be the Senate President of the 10th Assembly.
The group believes that with Senator Uzor Kalu as the Senate President, he would bring his experience to bear in dealing with national issues that would be of great benefits to all Nigerians.
Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf Ajiji, the leader of the movement, in a statement through the group’s Publicity Secretary, Garba Noma, described Senator Uzor Kalu as a sensible and reasonable politician, who has the capacity to mobilize the 10th Senate to pursue a common course that would lead the country to higher grounds.
According to him, “We believe strongly that if Senator Uzor Kalu emerges as the Senate President, he has the capacity to mobilize the South East behind the APC and also douse the tension in the sub-region for the sustenance of peace and unity in the country.”
The movement noted that this is the type of personality the nation looking for to lead the 10th Senate to ensure due process is observed in its affairs of moving the country forward.
The statement explained that it is exhilarating for them to bring to the knowledge of Nigerians that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has shown his readiness to contest for the Senate Presidency for a better Nigeria and offer himself for the service of the country.
He further explained that their movement had earlier issued a statement campaigning for the Senate President to be zoned to the South East in the interest of equity and fairness and the person in mind for the position is Senator Uzor Kalu.
As a businessman, the statement noted that his exploits and achievements are the stuffs of legend and as a politician, saying that he has acquainted himself creditably as a governor and senator of the republic.
The statement further noted that though Senator Uzor Kalu hails from the South East, his tentacles have spread across the country in his pursuit of education, business, politics and making friends all over the country.
The statement described Senator Uzor Kalu as a patriot and commitment to Nigeria is overwhelming as demonstrated by his capacity to build bridges of friendship across the country for mutual understanding among Nigerians.
The group appealed to the Senators-elect to close ranks and place national interest above personal and political inclinations and support Senator Uzor Kalu, describing him as the best man for the job.
