Insecurity: Collaboration, Intelligence Gathering, Community Relations Panacea – NSCDC Commandant

The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Lagos Command Edenabu Okoro Eweka has charged sister security agencies to embrace consistent inter – agency collaboration, objective intelligence gathering and community relations as part of ways to eradicate Insecurity in the country.

Eweka, who made the submission at a symposium, organised, by the Muslim Students Society of Nigeria ( MSSN ), Lagos Area Unit, with the theme; ‘Rethinking National Security.’ added that feedback mechanism from citizens and continuous security  education of the civil populace, amongst others.are inclusive of ways to eradicate the scorching menace.

Represented by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) advised the citizenry on the need for attitudinal change and love for country, especially, towards political, socio – economic and other public policies of government. 

“We can not  love our country less, as we have no other nation we can call our own,” he stressed.

The NSCDC Commandant, who identified some causative factors of insecurity, such as; economic instability, political instability, social unrest, scarcity, poverty, external influence and high rate of unemployment amongst others, further charged the citizens on engagement and involvement, in the build up of a strong national security architecture for the nation, as we rethink our national security.

He also admonished the participants that the nation will get better in our lifetime if they channel whatsoever genuine grievances they may have about the state of the nation, through security agencies and other relevant government agencies, in a bid to avoid needless or avoidable security breaches and economic sabotages of the nation’s critical national assets and infrastructure by criminals or miscreants, especially, now that the electioneering campaigns, towards the 2023 general elections have begun. 

Abolurin, who also addressed the ‘JAPA SYNDROME,’ affecting a large population of the nation’s youths, who have seen traveling abroad as the only preferred alternative, to having and enjoying a better life said, “tough times do not last, but tough people do. Our nation will require all of us to make it work, by our love and commitment to do so.”

However, the panel session, which was moderated by Sodiq Adekunle, to further deepen the discussion, was preceded, by intellectual, resourceful, emphatic and realistic speeches, from the keynote speaker and Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, ably represented, by Dr Hakeem Shittu, Permanent Secretary ( LASUBEB ), the lead speaker, Dr Kabir Adamu and Superintendent of Police ( SP ) Raji Jamiu, the representative of the Commissioner of Police ( CP ), Lagos State, CP Abiodun Alabi.

The Panel included the following discussants; Dr Kabir Adamu, Dr Hakeem Shittu, Mr Babajide Kolade – Otitoju, Group Controller, Current and Public Affairs at Television Continental ( TVC ) and DSC Abolurin Oluwaseun, Civil Defence Public Relations Officer ( CDPRO ), Lagos.

Good will messages were presented by imam Abdurrahman Ahmad, National Missioner Ansar udeen Society of Nigeria,

Lt. Commander Habeeb Muhammed, representative of the Commander, NNS Beecroft, Mr Lukman Aminu ( Member, Lagos Community Policing ), AbduRofiu Ogunlola, Amir Adyan ( Ansarudeen Youth, Lagos State Council).
