The Galadima of Dutse in Jigawa State, Alhaji Bashir Muhammadu Sanusi has called on governments at all levels to include ICT and entrepreneurship in school curriculums.
Sanusi made the call at the 10th graduation ceremony of Golden Light School, Sabuwar Takur Layout, Dutse in Jigawa State.
“To conform with the present times challenges, our schools syllabus must encompass ICT and other science related subjects as our wards are in dire need of such education to equip them to become competent doctors, engineers, technicians and computer experts in future for our growth and development,” he stressed.
He lamented the poor standard of education in Nigeria, maintaining that there is need for holistic approach, public participation and to complement government’s efforts in developing educational system.
Sanusi noted that past and present administrators are vast in administrative knowledge due to good educational background they acquired during the colonial times.
Earlier in his remarks, the guest speaker, Professor Okoli from University of Abuja, said that ICT and entrepreneurship is the key to economic prosperity, adding that skills acquisition are steps to economic empowerment. “As the world moves faster, we must strive hard in meeting the challenges of time, for us to be able to move forward with modern innovation of learning in the areas of science and technology,” he advised.
He charged the graduands not to rely on white collar jobs, urging them to embrace skills acquisition.
Also speaking, the proprietress of the school, Mrs Justina E. Chira advised the graduands not to allow selfish interests stain their integrity, urging them to be kind and also be ambassadors of Nigeria.
