With the approach of the rainy season, the Bauchi State government has mapped out plans to revive its ailing Fertilizer Blending Company to readily provide the commodity to farmers in the state ahead of the season.
Speaking during a tour of the company in Bauchi Wednesday, the newly appointed chairman, Bappah Aliyu Misau assured to revive the company, not only to provide the much needed fertilizer for the state’s teeming farmers but also make it profitable.
The chairman lamented that despite the huge amount spent by previous government, machineries and raw materials are allowed to be wasting away at the premises of the company which, he noted, has been moribund and grossly under-utilized due to a deliberate neglect of the past
According to him, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar-led administration as a result of its commitment to key into the President Muhammadu Buhari’s agricultural revival effort, has focused on ways to develop the sector in Bauchi state.
Aliyu, therefore called for the cooperation of the company workers towards achieving the set goal of putting the company back to life because, as he puts bit, present condition of the fertilizer blending plant calls for strenuous efforts of both workers and management staff.
Alhaji Bappah Misau explained that the company when fully operational will provide jobs for about 500 people in its fertilizer blending and Kaolin procession sections.
The General Manager of the company, Danjuma Adamu has while responding, said noted that the new chairman came at the right time when the plant needed a competent management team.
Adamu said that looking at the new chairman’s private sector background who has also ran a successful company, he is confident of the chairman’s ability to turnaround the fortunes of the company.
He told the chairman that because of the neglect the company suffers in the past, its challenges had been growing over the years, saying it has almost stopped and lacks money to even pay staff salaries.

“If not for a fund of about seven million given by the state government recently, no provided for the running of the company by the immediate past government.

The Bauchi Fertilizers Company was established in 1995 and revived and re-commissioned by former Vice President, Namadi Sambo in November, 2013.
Since then, the company has not been operating to provide either Kaolin to Pharmaceutical companies or blended fertilizer to the state farmers.
