The Police in Nasarawa State has detained eight officers of the command in connection with alleged shooting to death of two persons in the state.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Abubakar Bello, disclosed this to newsmen in lafia, saying that two persons were killed during a visit to the Government House by the National President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Mr Ayuba Wabba.
He said the case had been taken over by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Police Headquarters
for full investigation, adding that the outcome of the
investigation would unravel the truth behind the incident.
The Police Commissioner disclosed that he had directed Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state to enlighten officers on the rules guiding the use of arms.
It would be recalled that the NLC President was in the state on Friday to discuss with the state government on the possible solutions to the protracted industrial dispute.
Waba had told newsmen in Lafia that unknown policemen shot four workers at the gate of the Government House, while they were awaiting the outcome of the NLC meeting with Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura while one of the shot workers died at the spot while another died later at the National Hospital in Abuja where he was referred to for further treatment.
Workers in the state have embarked on an indefinate industrial action to protest the decision of the state government to slash their salaries by 50 per cent and worse still paying them in percentage.
