All Famers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) Kaduna state chapter has commenced the sales of organic fertiliser to farmers in the state thursday.
Speaking at the launching of the sales, the State Chairman of AFAN Alhaji Nuhu Aminu said the fertiliser was certified good for all categories of crops and each bag goes for N3,000.
According to him the commodity which was imported from India was found to be suitable for all kinds of soil not only in Kaduna state but in northern Nigeria.
He said that is why the farmers embrace it, adding that one of the greatest benefits of organic fertiliser was revitalization of soil richness apart from reduction in productivity cost.
“When a farmer applies organic fertilisers this year, its residue remains in the soil for good three years, therefore, a farmer needs a few quantity next year and subsequent year.
“I want to use this medium to appeal to farmers to rely 100 per cent on organic instead of inorganic with a view to revitalising the soil productivity,’’ he said.
According to him, there is only one sales point, which is located in Zaria, to have total control on the commodity.
The chairman observed that the commodity was found to be suitable for all kinds of crops considering its composition as it comprises animal dung and waste residue.
“The commodity was equally tested in Kano, Niger, Sokoto, Jigawa and host of other states in Northern Nigeria,’’ he said.
Aminu advised both state and federal governments to give the organic fertilisers the necessary attention to rediscover farmlands and boost agricultural production in the country.
