No fewer than 40 teams are expected to participate in the second edition of the Kaduna Speaker Badminton Championship, billed to begin on January 22 in Kaduna.
This was disclosed by one of the organisers, Imran when speaking to newsmen at the Exclusive Badminton Club.
According to him, the clubs that have indicated interest of participating are drwan from all over the country.
“We are expecting three clubs from Lagos and two from Port Harcourt as well as several others from other states of the federation like Borno, Yobe and others,” he said.
He explained that being the biggest veterans’ competition in the country, nothing less was expected from those indicating interest.
“It is going to be the biggest veterans tournament in the country. Saying biggest, because the first edition which was held last year was big.
“Right now it is about six days to go and judging from the success of last year’s edition, we are looking forward to an exciting outing,” he added.
Speaking further, he explained that though last year, the Arewa Badminton Club sponsored it on their own, this year, the Kaduna State Speaker, Hon. Shagali has offered to assist by way of contributing to the tournament.
“Though our aim is to keep the game alive, we are not realy focusing on attracting sponsorship for now, we are mainly trying to make it bigger every year, so that they sponsors can line up wanting a stake in it,’ he said.
