Buhari to grace 50th anniversary of Sir Ahmadu Bello, NNN anniversary …to launch special edition of the paper

President Muhammadu Buhari is slated to be the Guest of Honour at the 5oth anniversary of the assassination of Sir Ahmadu Bello, Premier of Northern Region, the golden jubilee of the New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN) as well launch the special edition of the newspaper which was established by the Sardauna on 1st January, 1966, two weeks before he was assassinated.
Briefing newsmen on the event, the Managing Director of Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, Dr Shettima Aji Ali said Thursday 14th January, 2016 is slated for the opening ceremony where the special edition of the NNN will be unveiled with Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Sule to deliver the keynote address on the topic “North; 50 years after Sir Ahmadu Bello” while justice Mamman Nasir would Chair the occasion.
Speaking further, Dr Aji said “the substance of the commemoration is to reflect on the enduring legacies of the late Premier of the defunct Northern region and his leadership style that engendered unity and progress in the region. It would also provide a forum for participants to review how far the region had fared in the last fifty years and see the extent to which the late Sardauna’s unwavering passion for the socio-economic and political development of the region was sustained. Participants are also expected to reflect on the challenges of sustaining the Sardauna’s legacies with a view to overcoming them to move the region forward”.
He emphasised that the special edition of the NNN that was two weeks old before the assassination of Sir Ahmadu Bello, would contain “among other things, special interviews with some prominent leaders of the North and close associates of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello and flashback of historic publications by the Newspaper from inception to date”.
Friday 15th January, 2016 is to be dedicated to special prayers in Mosques, a continuation of photo exhibition at Arewa House and visits to the legacy institutions by students. Saturday January 16, 2016 will be for panel discussion and sunday 17th would be dedicated to special prayers in Churches.
The event is being organised by all the legacy institutions of Sir Ahmadu Bello: NNN, NNDC, ABU, Kaduna Polytechnics, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Arewa Research and Development Project (ARDP), FRCN Kaduna, NTA Kaduna, and Jamiyar Matan Arewa.
Present at the briefing were representatives of all the above organisations.
Expected to grace the occasion are former Heads Of State and Presidents, former Vice Presidents, former Senate Presidents, Former Chief Justices, former Speakers of the House of Representatives, Members of the National Assembly, Governors; serving and former among many distinguish Nigerians.
